Pirates
Problem
Create a magazine that differentiates itself from the rest.
Insight
All sailing magazines are filled with advertisement, even on the cover. They do not contain anything interesting or useful regarding boats or ships.
Idea
Remove all advertisements and focus on what matters. The use of beautiful images from sailing ships, details as well as tips and tricks that are useful on the sea replaces the advertisements. Sailing means freedom, and the most free people on the sea have been pirates. The structure is also created with freedom in mind throughout the magazine, breaking all the rules, and breathes freedom just like a pirate.

Babord and starboard are navigation markers that exist on the sea. They guide each ship to the closest port and help navigate around obsticles that otherwise would lead to capsizing. Each page number has a line above it, left page red as babord and right page green for starboard. This is a fun detail only true lovers of the sea will notice. This intension is meant to help the readers navigate the magazine.
Details
There are plenty of details in the magazine, for example in the “Navigation” chapter, where I use the color green, red as well as white to showcase navigation in the dark. A lighthouse uses these colors to help navigate ships and guide them to safe waters in pitch back darkness. Lanterns on ships also usesz these colors so that others can identify which way they are facing.
